Moving advice
-
Book your move as far in advance as possible: this will ensure you get the time, date and truck size you want. Remember that Fridays and Saturdays book up the fastest.
-
When you book your move, be as accurate as possible about the amount of stuff to be moved and the access at the pick up and drop off addresses. Let us know if you have more or less stuff (or steps) than you originally thought: the more information you give us the smoother and quicker your move will be.
-
Make sure all packing is done before the movers arrive. If you want to speed up your move, dismantle beds, remove shelves, seal boxes and bags, and have all items placed in one area of your house ready to go.
-
Make sure your boxes are not too heavy - while our movers are big and strong and are fed on a diet of porridge, spinach and taro, they do have their limitations.
-
It’s fine to leave drawers in, but if they slide or roll out easily or contain small knick knacks, empty them before the move.
-
Try to ensure there is a parking space free for our truck: try using traffic cones, bins, chairs with a sign on (eg: please keep clear for furniture trucks) to keep a space free. (Top tip - a sign saying "hearse arriving in morning" works wonders).
-
Make sure driveways have no low hanging cables, overgrown trees or bushes or other obstructions.
-
Small children, cats, dogs and big strong removal men carrying heavy items don't mix well.
-
If your move is large or you have difficult access (lots of steps, zig zags, a long path), talk to us about booking more than two men: while the hourly rate will be a little more, this will speed up your move considerably and the price may end up about the same.
-
If you have bought a house and are moving on settlement day, please let us know. It is recommended that your move starts a little later in the day as it causes frustration for all (and costs you more money) if we are waiting with a full truck at your new house but the settlement has not gone through. Friday is always the worst day for settlements being held up.
-
Please be patient if we are running late: this will probably be because the person moving before you hasn’t read the above! We will call you to let you know if we are behind schedule.
