Supermarkets can be a good source of free boxes or try going around main shopping areas the day before they get their rubbish collected as they often throw out vast amounts of very good boxes.

Another great idea if you don't want the hassle of unwanted cardboard  boxes after your move is to use http://www.rentacrate.co.nz  they rent out strong ,stackable ,secure  plastic boxes ,they will deliver the boxes prior to your move an collect them when you are settled in your new house.

Hints on self packing

Make sure all packing is done before the movers arrive. If you want to speed up your move dismantle beds, remove shelves, seal boxes and bags, have all items placed in one area of your house ready to go. Make sure your boxes are not too heavy - while our movers are big and strong and are fed on a diet of porridge, spinach, & taro, they do have their limitations. The more organized you are the quicker your move will go and the more money you will save !!

Make sure all your boxes are clearly marked, ie, kitchen living room etc, it’s also a good idea to clearly mark boxes that have fragile items inside or to put fragile stickers on the box, these can be purchased at Warehouse stationery.
